Kingston's Reformed-Lutheran Hispanic Ministry Lutheran - Trinity, Redeemer, Immanuel
Missioner Pastor Elena Perez and Deacon Brenda Larsen work in tandem to create a growing Hispanic Ministry in Kingston. It was determined that Reformed-Lutheran services for an increasing population of people from a Hispanic background could be met in the Kingston area. An immediate need for many included learning English and support with social services, counseling, domestic issues, home visits, etc. Many in the Kingston area are from Mexico, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Dominican Republica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, and Ecuador. At present, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes are held at Trinity on Tuesday and Saturday of each week {Class times are listed above.} Class members benefit from volunteers who teach Reading, Math, Conversational English and everyday life skills. Following Tuesday and Saturday classes, Pastor Perez and Deacon Larsen conduct a Worship/Communion Service.
How can you help?
in Your one year sponsorship of $25.00 will provide one student with a Spanish-English dictionary, level appropriate workbooks and a newspaper, all of which are used in class each week. A book plate noting your gift will be placed in the books. Consider giving the sponsorship in honor of a loved one for birthdays, anniversaries, any celebration. Contact Trinity Office, 845-338-2954 or by e-mail, pogno@hvc.rr.com. You may send your check to: Trinity Lutheran, 72 Spring St., Kingston, NY 12401. Indicate your name and address, and note if donation is a gift in honor of someone.
Tutors are needed for Tuesday and Saturday sessions. Experience in teaching or ability to speak Spanish is not necessary, just a willing heart. Deacon Larsen guides volunteers throughout the lesson plans so no preparation is needed. Funds are needed on a continuing basis. Workbooks, and other learning materials are in constant demand. Other supplies are also needed. (Call the Trinity office at 338-2954 if you would like to contribute) Prayers are needed for the student, tutors and for the continuing growth of this ministry. Attendance is needed during special events. There are opportunities for all to worship and socialize together. |
